The San Saba River is one of the last free-flowing river systems in Central Texas, but parts are at risk of drying up due to drought and pumping. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is funding a team of researchers to study how this could impact rare #mussel species in the river: bit.ly/SanSabaMussels


Endangered #WhoopingCranes are moving toward their wintering grounds in Texas thanks to the recent cold front. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Whooping Crane Coordinator said over half of the banded whoopers he studies have arrived so far, with the first of the season spotted in Seadrift Oct. 19.

Check out what our San Marcos Aquatic Resources Center team caught during a sampling trip in San Marcos, Texas today. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologists are holding in refugia and conducting research on ten species that live in the Edwards Aquifer, including the endangered Texas blind salamander.

Late last week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Southeast Region and @NOAAFish_SERO reached out requesting assistance with a large sea turtle cold-stunning event in Massachusets. Monday, Dec. 7, the Texas State Aquarium received 20 of these sea turtles. bit.ly/3qF2uFC #txstateaquarium
