Start them early everyone! Who needs a calculator? Not this two-year old, the youngest to appear on AGT. An inspiring young mathematician! Sunrise School Division youtu.be/WP5-zKvjDoY?si…

There are so many numbers to dig into in sport. For the upcoming Stanley Cup Final, how far with the teams travel if the series goes 4 games? 5? 6? 7? If the flight take 5 hours 36 minutes, how long will they spend in the airplane over a 4, 5, 6 or 7 game series? Sunrise School Division

Immersed in Grade 12 Provincial Exam marking! Great information sharing from our Ts that attended provincial training and fantastic discussion around student work! Sunrise School Division

How long g would you have to spend in McDonalds? How are you eating your way out early? Very cool idea! Sunrise School Division

Another great way to make Ss think… what other ideas might there be to create additional thinking opportunities? Sunrise School Division Fawn Nguyen Graham Fletcher Robert Kaplinsky Peter Liljedahl

Always enjoy seeing Math learning being showcased and made visible on bulletin board displays. Here are a couple of the ones I saw today in one of our schools… Sunrise School Division

Numeracy Residency walk thrus continue to allow Ts the opportunity to showcase some learning they have transformed into their regular teaching practice. It is very rewarding to see Ss responding so well. Engagement & thinking opportunities through problem solving! Sunrise School Division

In Grade 4, Math Workshop allows Ss to work in small groups doing various jobs. The teacher is a station which allows her the opportunity to provide small group instruction to Ss who have a similar need! Sunrise School Division

Also in Gr 4, Ss shared a very high level of mathematical discourse while talking their way through their thinking in the “Mystery Box” warm up routine by Steve Wyborney I through a couple of “twists” their way on the fly and Ss responded very well (100 became 82) Sunrise School Division

In Grade 2, Ss explored a Graham Fletcher 3-Act Math Task exploring balance & equality. So cool to see balance scales, pattern blocks, white boards and more to represent Ss mathematical thinking & persevere through struggle productively while trying to find many solutions Sunrise School Division

The Building Thinking Classrooms approach was alive & well Grade 4 while Ss worked through mild, medium & spicy problems involving Canadian Coins found in their Math Tool Kits! Ss are asking for vertical, non-permanent surfaces & random group opportunities more often! Sunrise School Division Peter Liljedahl

Another fantastic resource to support the development of BTC! Sunrise School Division

It’s National French Fry Day! Which is your favourite? Check out the link for several interesting graphics for data analysis & interpretation with Ss. These would lead to some interesting predictions, discoveries & mathematical conversations! Sunrise School Division foodmanufacturing.com/consumer-trend…

These WIM activities NEED to be a part of what you plan to do with Ss early in the year. They help to create a numeracy environment where Ss will thrive and they reinforce what is valued in your numeracy classroom Sunrise School Division

It’s almost here! The annual Virtual Math Summit is a wonderful learning opportunity! So many great speakers on a variety of topics! Register now! summit.makemathmoments.com Sunrise School Division
