Unethical. Flawed. Biased. Plans for Archaeology at Sheffield have recieved little support within the University, nationally, and internationally. Join us tomorrow for our virtual rally and let's #SaveSheffieldArchaeology and turn this terrible decision around. facebook.com/events/5649402…
On this morning of our rally, further reporting on how badly Archaeology at Sheffield, its staff and students, have been treated by The University of Sheffield : thepipeline.info/blog/2021/07/0… Rally starts at 11:00 today... #SaveSheffieldArchaeology

Upon the announcement of my first class qualification in archaeology, I have never been prouder to be a sheffield archaeologist taught by Archaeology at Sheffield. Here's to overturning a misinformed decision so there will be many more (1/2)
Fantastic work by our Masters student Paul! Archaeology at Sheffield
Another archaeology university department closure University of Worcester - a worrying trend as more Unis outside the Russell Group close. Narrowing the diversity of choice for HE will ultimately lead to a less diverse workforce. It’s obvious we have a lot of work to do 😞#Dig4Arch
Archaeology is “a really powerful tool for understanding who we are and where we come from”, and this has “a surprising mental health benefit”, says Chris Whitwood, organiser of Campaign to Save British Archaeology bit.ly/2WjGa9W
NEW! Does the decision to close Archaeology at Sheffield make financial sense? Not on UEB’s figures. Read how details unearthed by an FoI request show that keeping Archaeology open makes @SheffieldUni £1.6m better off over the next 5 years. #SaveSheffieldArchaeology ucu.group.shef.ac.uk/does-the-decis…
As you know, we will be making an experimental archaeological replica of the Tetney axe/mace head and handle with Archaeology at Sheffield @Hugh_Willmott Historic England Grand... a road trip to Doorus Point, Galway Bay, on Ireland’s Atlantic coast to collect materials is now the plan!
Always great to hear about what our research network is up to Sheffield Archaeomaterials alumnus Sergios Menelaou, now University of Cyprus, is presenting his research online this Monday (11th) Borderlands as areas of connectivity during the third millennium BC facebook.com/events/2472928…
This Friday, it's TAG44@UEANorwich, and we're hosting a rather existential discussion in the afternoon (14:00 - 17:30 GMT)... "Archaeology: Why Are We Doing This" Info and registration here: 2021tagconference.wordpress.com/2021/09/30/ses… Great speakers and pertinent ideas included! Archaeology at Sheffield
While we had fruitful discussions during TAG44@UEANorwich on the future of archaeology globally on Friday (and thanks to all our participants for contributing!), it's worth being reminded of just one example of what we're up against and working within...
