Here's Ann Rohmer's interview of Dr Deonandan on "The Feed", broadcast earlier this morning, on the 3 year anniversary of the pandemic: youtu.be/CHgsmCC5Bac

Some of those opposed to COVID restrictions and some of those worried about COVID impacts have at least one thing in common: we are all concerned about disproportionate impacts on the poor. Surely, that is enough common ground to build a better public health system together?

CDC and FDA school Florida Surgeon General (Joseph Ladapo) on the basics of how to interpret vaccine and surveillance data. Dude (and his boss) are a genuine threat to public safety. cdc.gov/media/releases…

Elementary errors made here. E.g., she assumes death count is accurate, when in fact they are wildly undercounted. Most glaringly, 5.6 billion people are now vaccinated, hugely blunting deaths. True pre-vaccine COVID IFR =~1%, not 0.17%, as shown in multiple studies.

Should always celebrate good news. But these data can be explained by: improved treatment, vaccination (!!), infection-based immunity, survivor bias, increasing denominators with progressive waves, and selective testing bias in earlier waves when testing capacity was limited.

Was thinking of the greatest medical achievements of human history. Here are my top three: 1: clean water 2: cooked food 3: vaccines

COVID is still around, still infecting people, still landing patients in ER and still affecting the health workers. I've seen an uptick in ER. Keep up with vaccines, masking works despite the ill-done Cochrane review and stay home if sick despite Ontarians lacking paid sick days

So let me get this straight: The Ontario government is okay with spending an average of $2.8 Billion/year on highways...but isn't okay with spending an average of just $5 Million/year on life-saving healthcare coverage for uninsured people? Where is the humanity?

I have sympathy for this position. But it matters that the lie is often backed by billionaires, foreign governments, and bot farms, while the truth is often a handful of nerds publishing peer-reviewed papers behind paywalls.

Seems this needs repeating. Life expectancy (LE) is not lifespan. The 1st is a population measure, the 2nd is an individual one. LE is not driven by how long we live into old age, but mostly by how many young people are dying. If LE falls, it's because younger people are dying.

If someone you know or follow posts something expressing a political view contrary to your own, don't get angry. Get engaged, if you want. But don't get angry. We're allowed to disagree. We're supposed to disagree. Seems obvious, but I think we have to remind ourselves of this.

TRIGGER WARNING. I just received this death threat. THIS HAS TO STOP. I will not resign. I will not be intimidated into silence. Whether the sender is in Ottawa or elsewhere, threats like this interfere with democracy.

Car accidents used to be the biggest killer of US kids. Driving safety legislation brought that down considerably. Now firearms are the biggest killer. How will bring that curve down? Thoughts and prayers?

After a very lengthy hiatus, the "Science Monkey" show is back with the first of 2 lost episodes from 2017. This one is mostly about overpopulation, and also some Japanese mythical monkey thing that grabs your "anus ball." Yes, anus ball. That's a thing. wordpress.com/post/scimonkey…
