The bottom lid of the Umbrel Pro isn't just a cover. It's made of two separate milled aluminum pieces fused together, creating an internal air chamber and a massive heatsink for the 4 SSDs. Watch Luke Childs ☂️ explain the thermal design breakdown:

You can feel the weight of the aluminum through the box before you even open it. Wild to think that 10 months ago this was a render on Suraj Mahraj's screen. Still hasn't sunk in.

We spent months obsessing over the thermal design of Umbrel Pro. Turns out when you fit an 8-core CPU, iGPU and 4 NVMe SSDs into a tiny form factor with toolless access, it's really hard to make it whisper quiet. Here's how we pulled it off 🧵

Here's what's inside the box when you take home the Umbrel Pro. Watch me sweat as I try not to mess up all the unboxing steps that you only get one take on...

My favourite part of all our setup/tutorial videos is they aren't faked... this is me literally doing the whole process on camera, with live screen recording on my laptop. A true testament to the simplicity of the hardware & software. We had a few minutes of camera time

Seriously impressed with the Umbrel Pro. The OS is by far the nicest NAS OS I've used. It actually lives up to the marketing hype and website.

People are always surprised by how many apps umbrelOS can handle. Umbrel Pro has 16GB of physical RAM. But it performs like 20GB+. We built some aggressive memory optimizations to make this happen. Here's a look at one of them. 🧵 x.com/thekitze/statu…
