New online — Ontario’s euthanasia regulators have tracked 428 cases of possible criminal violations, and not referred a single one to law enforcement. Read about the leaked documents, first revealed publicly moments ago by Alexander Raikin: thenewatlantis.com/publications/c…

2023 figures of #euthanasia #MAID in Canada are out. Many things troubling, but already this: about 50% of 'track-2' (i.e. people not close to death) cite loneliness & burden on others as sources of suffering. Of course, DwD folks will still claim no social factors to MAID...

I get the feeling that some MPs haven't scrutinised the #AssistedDying bill& are voting for this because they feel that Kim Leadbeater is a good egg, which undoubtedly she is. But this is NOT voting 4 your favourite act at Eurovision, this is seismic law change at breakneck speed

Re: Kim Leadbeater BBC Newsnight - Good to know a former personal trainer knows more about the MCA/MHA than the RCPsych. She doesn't trust drs opinions on the dangers of the Bill but trusts them to assess capacity/depression within an underfunded NHS. Well I'm reassured...

Several young women with anorexia have been deemed untreatable by the Court of Protection. If the bill goes through, these cases will be approved by local panels. Not even judicial oversight

3. Leadbeater’s response: “Sometimes mistakes are made—but ultimately, if that person was close to death, they would be poorly… the physical deterioration that takes place would happen….if they’re feeling fine, they can change their mind at any time.”

4. It’s genuinely unbelievable. Leadbeater is claiming that if a doctor gives a badly ill person an incorrect six-month diagnosis, a patient can just correct it by checking if they’re “feeling fine”. No doctor, including bill supporters, has ever made such an outlandish claim.

Nikki da Costa Ellie Reeves Keir Starmer This is a tsunami of experts - please heed the warnings. The NHS can’t handle this, neither can the hospices nor social care. There will be no safe place. The law is a safety net for the vulnerable, not a vehicle for the powerful and influential.

MPs need to think of buyer's regret on #assisteddying. This is beautifully put by the grandson of one of the pioneers of #assistedsuicide in Oregon. There were 'hours left unlived, words left unsaid, kisses left unshared...' How many more if the bill passes on Friday?

Can we please remember that Esther Rantzen would have missed two birthdays at the very least had "#assisteddying" been legal and she had chosen that option? She is a (thankfully) living, breathing example of why passing this bill would be a mistake. #assistedsuicide

I've been accused of disguising something myself - my Christian faith. And it's true that while I've never hidden it (see my maiden speech) I didn't parade my faith as the basis of my objection to assisted suicide. You don't need religious arguments to show this Bill is bad,
