Coroner issues Regulation 28 saying: ‘There is no national framework as to how Physician Associates should be trained, supervised and deemed competent. This is placing both patients, Physician Associates and their employers at risk’ Cc Wes Streeting manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-m…

Wow. Sounds a lot like GPs are doing around £1.7bn of unrecognised and unremunerated work every year, at least. Also sounds like the floor for the negotiations has been identified. Add a permanent unlock of ARRS funds and you’ve probably got yourself a ball game.

How does this fit with GMC Royal College of Physicians Royal College of Emergency Medicine guidance? It seems to completely disregard any of it & is a perfect demonstration of why local setting of PA practice will always result in scope-creep & poor patient safety standards. The BMA needs to get on this ASAP!

A HUGE 🚩 from this trust The job advert for a PA in this Emergency Dept - they’ll be the RESUS or PAEDIATRIC DOCTOR of the day?! PAs don’t hold a medical degree & only do a 2 year course in PA studies These are the sickest, most vulnerable patients HOW can this trust do

🚨 This ARRS bullsh!t is seriously getting out of hand. 🩺 Saw a 67F lady with suspected scabies - itchy rash “crawling under skin” w/ typical appearance of burrows on arms. All started after staying in outdoor lodge on holiday. For Pemethrin etc. All seem straightforward?

St George's, Epsom and St Helier remove this job advert immediately! THIS IS NOT SAFE FOR CANCER PATIENTS! No experience necessary in oncology ? What local medical training and exams would a PA have to undergo to allow them to do this work ? Where is the local training plan? ClinOncDoc Partha S Kar 🇮🇳🇬🇧🏏🎥

St George's Trust's new Physician Associate job advert raises serious concerns. The role description appears to overstep The BMA scope boundaries for PAs potentially putting patient safety at risk. 🧵 /1

This is the most disturbing matter Royal College of Physicians “had the EGM been held before that point, the concerns raised would have been fed into the parliamentary process and may have affected the passage of the legislation” Was that politically motivated?

I have the misfortune to see a PA today for my hospital appointment. The clinic nurse introduced them as a doctor, he never said he is not a doctor. I am naturally unimpressed, but feel trapped in the situation. I will be writing to PALS and the consultant team.

So after a night of almost no sleep, I have given this some reflections. I have thought many times that I should have just walked out and regretted that I did not. I was too shocked by the audacity. 1/

A lot of bold claims are made about the utility of non-doctors filling medical roles to support the workforce. Let's take a look at an analysis of primary care in England, rather than making assumptions from poor data in other countries & systems. A 🧵 1/17

Here is the thing regards #PhysicianAssociates & scope Anything you deem to be 'ok' and is more than what a FY1 doctor can do? Means there is a 'quicker' route to be an FY1 rather than 5 years in medical school And giving validity to views that PA > FY1 Time to decide AoMRC

It's a watershed moment and drawing a clear line in the sand - fundamentally, senior doctors need to decide if the medical training of their juniors has value or not, across specialties. Needs utmost communication, honesty and transparency - ideally voting registers!

1000s of GPs unemployed across the country, yet this is the sign 🪧local practice have had to stick outside today, as they do not have access to the necessary funds to employ enough GPs. Absolutely travesty. 🤦🏽‍♂️. #LabourConference24

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been operating an SDEC lumbar puncture service since early this year. Alarmingly, a single PA has conducted at least 54 LPs without any oversight from a GMC-registered doctor. The Standard Operating Procedure lacks any requirement for direct supervision.
