1/ A 24-hour wait in Emergency Departments should be a never event. January-September 2023, there were 36,025 waits for 24 hours or more in EDs. In September 2016, 7 people waited for 24 hours or longer & in September 2023, the number was 3,927. A 56,000% increase.

It is good to see discussion of what we have all known for years. The hours combatting the desire to find ‘low hanging fruit’ solutions to four hour performance!! Often driven hard by NHSE despite clinician concern Adrian Boyle
