We are happy to release the first results of a RCT of a US program that provided $1,000/month unconditionally for 3 years to 1,000 individuals in the treatment group, with a group of 2,000 people receiving $50/month serving as the control. These are sizable transfers. 1/ 🧵

Today, on behalf of Youth Endowment Fund I joined a roundtable with bereaved parents, PM, Home Secretary, Lord Chancellor, Idris Elba and others to underscore the governments commitment to halving knife crime. Much to do but genuinely encouraging to see the seriousness from PM down.

Careful evaluation by my colleagues Institute for Fiscal Studies shows EMA was not effective in improving outcomes. Looks like due to reduced work experience among 17/18 year olds. Big contrast with our evaluation of Sure Start which showed significant positive long term effects.

This is a great piece of exploratory research. Suggests that in this context (secondary school maths) AI tutoring can be as good as - or possibly even better than - online tuition from a human

A lot of entrance exams consist of non-verbal reasoning questions - shape rotation, etc. The argument in favour of them is that they are "tutor-proof". But whether they are or not - kids are practising them with their tutors anyway! Is that a good use of their time?
