On this date in 1895, Frederick Douglass passed away at his Cedar Hill home in Anacostia. His funeral was held at the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church. We are so proud of all Douglass accomplished, & that he lived out his final decades here in DC.

Sadly, Roberta Flack has left us. Her DC ties are strong: she attended Howard University on a full piano scholarship, taught in DC Public Schools, & got her break playing 5 nights a week at Mr. Henry’s on Capitol Hill. The photo on the cover of her first album was also shot there
