Not sure who decides on the daily images for the computer login screens at University of Brighton, but I’ll take shots of the badlands at Death Valley any day.

The sun’s not long up, and the field centre is a hive of activity ahead of the return leg to Brighton. Thanks for having us Dale Fort Field Studies Council.

Our Geography and Environment studies have been examining the evidence for late Pleistocene environmental change in Pembrokeshire. This was a well-earned lunch break after logging the fantastic sediment sequence at Druidston Haven.

The problem with Reform doing so well in the election polls, is that some of their more dangerous policies are getting airtime. They are the party of climate change deniers, and want to cut spending on carbon reduction on the basis that cuts in the UK make little impact globally.

Had to go for a routine blood test today. It took four attempts (one in each arm, one in the back of my hand, one in my foot) to extract even a tiny sample of blood. I’m probably going to be referred to the hospital for my next blood test. The perils of having very small veins đŸ€ą

Great news! Thanks to a generous grant from the Chalk Cliff Trust, we will be sampling eDNA at five streams and tributaries of the Bull River to monitor species diversity across the catchment. Sampling starts this month - watch this space!

I had the odd experience of having an MRI scan today. Not for anything major; it was a medical trial to identify the impact of long-Covid on the brain (I was a control brain). For fans of electronica, I’d liken it to lying motionless and listening to Dazzle Ships by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.

Very productive day at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) archives yesterday with Matthew Hannaford. Here’s hoping today is equally good. It’s a great collection if you haven’t visited before. Loads of interesting material from Southern Africa. And yes that’s a Kraftwerk mouse mat.

Up far too early and on the train to that London to do some exciting work with Matthew Hannaford in the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) archives. We’ll be looking at historical documents from 19th century Mozambique, as part of our The British Academy funded research.

Well done Frahm jackets on this April Fool spoof in amongst the hipster jackets. Pre-order for 2035, with a choice of ‘woolly string retention binding’ lengths. Nice. FRAHM Jacket
