There are many hikers in the Litla-Hrút area W Kistufell who massively overestimate themselves - they are all far away from THIS eruption

Many people are running to THIS eruption, but so far NO ONE has had to be saved ... except maybe this car

Just felt like sharing this little gem of a spot in Iceland! Krysuvikurkirkja-church in the barren landscape of Reykjanes peninsula is a recent rebuild and a true replica.
The older one burned down in 2010, but the new one has the same charm imo!

The Icelandic Meteorological Office says that the current situation on #Reykjanes is new. They play through all scenarios as a volcanic eruption with is going on in the #Sundhnúka crater series at the same time as land is rising in Svartsengi.

Has the lower exit of the crater shifted ?
Is it now “ in the back right corner ” ?

Change ..... during the night the - unfortunately hidden - foot exit of the crater was very busy ..... it seems to have enlarged its exit 🥰

The snow that fell on the crater wall definitely caused the crater wall to collapse further as it melted and with the help of the wind ... 😶‍🌫️ 🫣

On The Pulse With Silki What is going on is normal geological activity for the Reykjanes peninsula. It's not cool to fear monger with titles like this. As this crater erupts, the storage chamber is also filling up again. Not unprecedented given that past events in Hawaii have done the same thing.

Until now everything looked as if this eruption would 'behave in the same way' as the 'Keilir eruptions' - but now the shallower magma chamber is starting to put its own stamp ...
