The Federal Government’s per-patient spending on general practice has fallen from $460 to $420 in one year, which an expert says reflects not just the bulk-billing crash but more patients not seeing a GP at all. ausdoc.com.au/news/govt-spen…

This fits with international research showing where a patient has been seeing same GP for >15 years, the probability of using out-of-hours services or A&E admission is reduced by 25–30%. (2/10) bjgp.org/content/72/715…

Kerry O’Brien said the ABC’s focus on marketing strategies, ratings, demographics and “chasing ambulances” had been disastrous and led to the public losing trust in the ABC. ..."the ABC has drifted more and more close to a commercial model” #auspol theguardian.com/media/2024/mar…

Tim Leeuwenburg ACEM RACGP ACRRM ANZCA GESA Same here. MPs manufactured a health 'crisis' by underfunding all levels of health for decades (esp. primary care); and are now stepping in to 'save' us by lowering the standard of care patients receive. They're either incompetent, or this is the greatest long-game ever played.

As General Practice dies, I wanted to write a reflection as to why. It's not about the evidence. We know that General Practice is the cheapest and most effective part of the health system. Here is the evidence in mental health for patient satisfaction.

This is a great thread on the plight of GP from Louise stone The most recent changes to funding ‘triple BB incentives’ do not even correct for inflation in urban settings Too little, too late. Just remember, if you think experts are expensive, just wait until you try

Now imagine you can't afford to see your GP, can't afford your medication, can't afford a psychologist, and can't afford a psychiatrist if you need one. I'm glad this person could access mental health support when they needed it; but in Australia that's a sign of privilege.

According to the AMA Media There are 38 388 GPs in Australia Over 26 weeks of the bulk billing incentive. 950 000 / 38 388 = 24.7 total consults. That means each GP has bulk billed on average less than 1 EXTRA consult a week. Less than 1. Given I do 150 consults a week.

If the point of society/economy isn't to care for each other and make things better for people and the planet, then what's the point?

“This is how the system rolls and how it works, and then the Australian taxpayer gets ripped off.” A federal software contract approved by the NDIA ballooned from $10 million to $210 million in just three years, reports Jason Koutsoukis. #auspol satpa.pe/tKWx4Ep

Good article. Shows that UCCs are in large part giving 100's of millions of taxpayer money to large GP corporates to do work they that were to some extent already doing, as a PR stunt with little-to-no evidence for overall benefit. Seems like a good way to spend 1 billion yeah?
