There’s a drought in the north-west after the driest spring since 1893. Decades of political failure left us exposed to climate breakdown impacts like this. Water privatisation led to reservoirs sold off, infrastructure neglected & dividends extracted. We need public

Reading the comments after Polly Toynbee’s Guardian article. One commentator says barely anyone’s pay has caught back up to 2008 levels. In CPI terms the opposite has happened and the average worker (despite the public sector being included in those numbers) has more than done so

exveindoc Lasantha Wijesinghe Alex Panton I'm going to sign off this thread now - Im confident my charts are correct and an honest representation of pay; and have perfect concordance with others including FT, IfG and others. I have tried to play the fairest game possible by only using official statistics, and using CPI

The BMA Pensions Committee position on raiding our pension to fund pay rises is crystal clear 👇 "it would be completely unacceptable to raid their pensions to pay for [pay rises]. The SoS has not approached us about this proposal, but it is something we would outright reject

Quite the thread. Dr Julia Grace Patterson💙 Peter Jukes please take the time to understand why ignoring how our economy really works is allowing dark powers to corrupt our economy for their own benefit. Ten minutes to read, a lifetime to reflect.

One of the problems in the current hospital drs pay row is the total lack of trust Drs have in the DDRB and government to do the right thing. Eg the non pay promises from the last action have not been delivered, exception reporting/rotations not happened, the promised mitigations

What would happen if Govt ran a balanced budget (eliminated the deficit)? Would it be good or bad for the economy? You may be surprised 😳 😉 👇🏻

Health secretary and BMA to meet in bid to avoid strikes Good I hope he agrees to meet with all other NHS groups in dispute with UK Govt to address the evident failures of the new DDRB process NHS pay awards cannot be lower than UK average currently bbc.com/news/articles/…

Scary Supernova Paul Stevens 🥀💚 Dr Julia Grace Patterson💙 The order IS crucial - £ creation by UK Govt is used to command resources in order to deliver democratically determined priorities such as the NHS Tax deletes £s ‘How are you going to pay for it‘ and ‘I’m not having my £s used for that’ are irrelevant when this is understood👍🏻

Neoliberal scaremongering reaching a crescendo. It's the old bankruptcy-IMF tale. What really happened? In 1976 supply-side inflation was exacerbated by currency-trading ghouls selling of £ in the FX market. Why did they attack? The Labour Party was about to nationalise

‘Strikes highlight systemic weaknesses in the NHS and underscore that truly fixing staff shortages and morale is essential to long-term resilience.  Which means starting a broader policy conversation about funding, retention and future-proofing… not just pay.’

Hey! It’s OK everyone We CAN invest to get the NHS where it needs to be AND your taxes DO NOT HAVE to rise to pay for it. That includes paying staff enough to keep them Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it? The investment almost immediately pays for itself👇🏻 annpettifor.substack.com/p/how-to-pay-f…

Abolish fiscal rules and the agencies that enforce them? Galbraith makes the case. (This is for you too, 🇬🇧) "The budget process cultivates and perpetuates the idea that smaller deficits are better than large ones..." 1/

1/ Now the embargo has lifted, I’ve had time to read the The Leng review in full. While some celebrate minor cosmetic wins, I see the formal entrenchment of a parallel, underqualified medical workforce — built without medical training.

8/ The financial logic here is absurd. Two-year supervised training, enhanced oversight, + higher pay bands - all while refusing full pay restoration for doctors who trained 10+ years. It’s cheaper only if you don’t value safety.

The Leng review: Imagine investigating an airplane crash and discovering a number of fundamental faults with an aircraft and then recommending a change of name on the paintwork and saying the plane ought to fly when no unexpected events are anticipated That’s the Leng Review👇🏻
