As a consultant clinical psychologist, let’s just be clear on the evidence, The Labour Party . If you want people to do well, uplift them. That means treating people with dignity, decent benefits one can live on without worry, not casting moral aspersions on people. Cuts do not work.

SEVERE CONDITION CRITERIA The Green Paper is diminished, but please lobby against the ‘severe condition criteria’—a hugely dangerous and discriminatory change to UC health rules that would drastically increase new claimants’ financial and psychological precarity. #TakingThePIP

The ‘Severe Conditions’ Criteria, as proposed, are likely to exclude claimants with fluctuating mental health conditions. This could result in significant financial losses (up to £2,800–£9,600 annually), increased reassessment frequency, and heightened psychological distress.

Disability benefits aren’t “extra money.” They exist to cover the ADDITIONAL COSTS of being disabled or sick. And research shows they NEVER close the gap. #TakingThePIP

How to be a therapist in three difficult steps: 1) Be a person, in a room, with another person. 2) Try to understand what that means. 3) Repeat.
