The difference between interested & invested players shows in the summer. Interested players need perfect circumstances(too hot/cold, no music, too busy). Invested players just need a place to work & get better (gym, track, weight room) & they do. How do you use your off-season?!

If your youth wrestling coach is cursing at your athletes, you need to find a new room. I just spent a few days at Oklahoma State, one of the most talented rooms in college wrestling. I didn’t hear a single curse word delivered by leadership during practice. The best coaches

There is a diminishing return on time spent training sport skill The injury risk from chronic exposure does not weigh out as advantageous for the skill improvement once you get to a certain point. But parents just think more is always better

I have yet to see an athlete “train on their own” at the local gym and actually see any measurable improvement over any period of time. Especially during the summer, the athletes who miss sessions never improve and often regress. Programming and environment matters!

Brian F. Jayson Tatum’s Achilles rupture in the NBA playoffs lead to a big discussion in parts of the strength and conditioning coach community. Mike Boyle asked: At what age did players like Tatum become "basketball specialists"? (His guess: 14-15) What's Tatum's total "mileage" at 27

Great stuff. The “benching is inherently bad for shoulders/throwers” myth is one of many that we as coaches need to put to rest.

Tony Holler 110% - Same thing happened to me throughout my career… my teammates that spent all summer running 110’s and 300 yard shuttles to “get ready” for conditioning test and camp. I did the opposite. Nothing less than max speed effort - with absolutely minimal “running”. Guess who was

🚨COACHES🚨 If an athlete runs 24 in the 200 and they say their goal is to run 22… Your first thought SHOULD NOT be “we need to do some miles to get there”. Please…

“If you’re a high school athlete you better be lifting year round. You’re competing with transfer portal athletes who train 48 weeks a year. You’re a baseball player who lifts for 3 months in the off season then says “I have travel ball” or “I’m not lifting in season” you are

Year round single sport specialization benefits the adults who can make money off of it at the expense of the child’s development.

Really good D1 Coach told me. “How do you expect your team to have fresh legs on game night if your practicing for 2 hours every day”

The majority of high school and even college players can't understand how physical (strong) major league players are. They better not be listening to the dumb dumbs telling them not to lift heavy weight, and not to bench press. Creating a base level of strength requires both.
