The people’s not-so-subtle defiance against the junta. The mayor’s pavilion is usually one of the most crowded in every Thingyan. Activists did not ask the people not to enjoy Thingyan this year but still defiance is visible.

Heart-wrenching images of our leader created by RFA Burmese news. The reality might be worse than this because there are reportedly no windows in the cell she was put in. May she be healthy and strong in this new Year time. Our thoughts are with her.

“ChatGPT, write an article about Myanmar Thingyan water festival using the words “climate change”, “misinformation”, “conflicts” and “cultural preservation”. Also, incorporate “hypertension” and “El Nino” somehow.”

Exactly this. People (esp journalists) need to understand that alliances are fluid on ground and many fighters would fight under many different flags. Why is this happening? Because this is a people’s war against the junta. Not an ethnic conflict.

This thread is only a fraction of what I've seen & what people told me in Karenni state, Myanmar.

If any editors would be interested in any stories about Karenni, the people, war, refugees, war crimes, drone units etc, or if anyone know of any editors who might, my DMs are open!

Yeah, we have to keep telling people that this is allied forces. Older journalists tend to credit only one group and emphasize only on ethnicity, but the reality on ground is a multi-ethnic revolutionary alliance.

What the resistance needs right now is concrete material support. Not more training courses on « democracy », « federalism », « human rights » or « gender equality ». Only concrete material support will make a difference now on ground.

Why take a side in the Myanmar war?

One side is a bloodthirsty military trying to oppress the entire country, and the other side is people fighting for freedom.

Let me ask back: Why ask such a stupid fucking question?

I just came back a trip around the resistance territories of southern Karenni state (Myanmar).

During my time I went to the frontlines, visited IDP camps in the jungles, stayed the night at an abandoned junta base, met resistance fighters, refugees and community leaders.

Many resistance forces are regularly lectured on IHL coz:

(1) it keeps the funding ongoing for the INGOs who actually give zero f*cks on Myanmar;
(2) donors feel good bcoz they can pretend they are doing *something*

What Kim asking here won’t happen.

Many of them are CDM students trying to find ways to continue their education. They should be a priority for intl orgs and instituons seeking to support Myanmar.

Indeed, the least that well-funded international agencies could do is help to house and feed the many POWs being held by resistance forces (esp. near border).

The int system tries to hold resistance actors to the IHL obligations of states without giving any of the priveleges.

This just came in only a few days after an analyst called the resistance “too optimistic, euphoric and their claim about victory becoming less convincing everyday”.

Over 600 officers and troops surrendered in Thingan Nyi Naung Tactical Operation Command today.
KNLA/ PDF coalition forces are firmly in control of TGNN and effectively cut the largest border trade town of Myawaddy.
