#TCRWP will return next Wednesday at 7.30 EST with the first chat of the fall, "Fostering Student Independence from Day 1" with Jessica Mactas Mazzone and Alexis Czeterko. Can't wait to see everybody there!

I just learned that Mark Zuckerberg is always the one in the room taking notes. Brooke Geller is reminding us to be the leader in the room, the one who is taking handwritten notes. #tcrwp #gatornationwrites

Take one step to embrace discomfort together. Be in charge of your own history. Perfect words to get started at this week’s #gatornationwrites institute. Thanks, Brooke Geller! #tcrwp

Casey here. TCRWP staff developer tweeting from Cincinnati tonight! So happy to be working at Indian Hill Primary this week, and thrilled to be here on twitter, too! #tcrwp

Q1 Let’s get started by thinking about what fascinates our kids! What have your students been particularly excited to learn about during your content teaching times? What are some favorite, tried and true units? What interests do you see emerging among your students? #tcrwp

Q2 A great way to begin doing content area work is to think about read alouds. Share your favorite content area read alouds! #tcrwp

Q3 It can be so exciting to see balanced literacy components doing double duty and teaching both literacy and content! What kinds of reading strategies can also be taught during content rich read alouds? #tcrwp

Q4 Content area instruction also includes math! What are some of the teaching methods that we use as literacy teachers that we might think about bringing into our math classes? Katie Clements #tcrwp

A4: Students can talk in math the way they do in literacy, and many of the same supportive structures can help: procedures, assigned partners. And modeling and think aloud practice are so transferable between math and literacy. #tcrwp

Q5 Think of the methods that can support both literacy and content work. Read alouds, shared reading, social studies and science centers can all support both! And doing these things in the context of content supports better transfer and engagement. #tcrwp

A7 I've loved Jeff Anderson's mentor sentence work. It's fast, efficient, and purposeful, and helps students (even first and second graders) to see the purpose and the power of the grammatical choices that they make. #tcrwp

A7: And encouraging volume is so important when it comes to grammar and vocabulary! Lots of reading leads to a giant vocabulary. Encourage your kids to read lots of books, on lots of different topics! #tcrwp

A10: I love working with digital NF texts. It does a great job of giving everybody access to content and thinking work. I’ve talked to kids about why I picked a video and how I know that it was good information. Planting the digital literacy seed. #tcrwp

A12 Studying students stop and jots during independent reading and read aloud. Listening in during turn and talks and partner time documenting student conversations. Many students express ideas through talk, with the support of a partner that they can’t share in writing. #tcrwp

A1: Working with some second graders on chapter book reading tomorrow. Excited to share Sadiq, Yasmin, and Lola Levine with them! #tcrwp

Q3: I learned from Lizzie Hetzer for a day, and she led the teachers in taking an inventory by categorizing and counting. It was so simple, but made it so easy to see the numbers and see where growth needed to happen. #TCRWP
