A1: use goal cards. Students can self select a phonics skill they are learning during phonics workshop to practice more during reading workshop, they can write it down on a post it and tally every time they use it. #TCRWP

A3: small groups that integrate isolated work and in context work. Think about short sprints, 2 minutes of PA on a particular phoneme(s), 2 minutes of reading or writing those same words, then reading some of those words in short, engaging decodable texts. #TCRWP

A4: Hold a study session using the Virtual Phonics Units of Study, the videos can be so much more than asynchronous student learning, it can be teacher PD too. Study the content and coaching and then immediately try the same lesson with students who need it in your room. #TCRWP

Q5: How do you bring phonics to the forefront of your reading small groups, while keeping engagement high and student centered? #TCRWP

A5: jump right into the work! Get kids active in sorting, hunting, listening, or clapping word parts. Frame your small groups as coaching, not too much teaching upfront. The more your student do, the more you will see what they can do and what they need support in. #TCRWP

A6: Provide students with 5-10 words with a common phonics principle, for instance vowel teams, to study 1 particular lens. Study the following- 1. accuracy in blending sounds 2. Automaticity 3. what students do when they self correct. Quick, yet effective. #TCRWP

Q7: Outside of your reading, writing and phonics workshops, what ways do you bring more phonological awareness into your classroom? #TCRWP

Kristi Guinness (@kristiguinness) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A5: morning meeting! Choose a handful of words that students are studying in phonics and manipulate the sounds, swap initial sounds or medial sounds to create new words. #TCRWP

Todays #TCRWP / South-Western homegrown highlight: Writing Records! Analyzing students spelling to better understand their phonics capability and needs and planning targeted next steps. So fun teaching with @BrittanyNocito
