If schools don’t ensure that ALL students can retake ALL summative assessments in ALL classes, do they really believe that ALL students can learn at high levels? (like it says in their vision/mission statements)

Playing our nightly game on my phone and I earned "13x6" points. G asked how many that was and I responded, "how many do you think it is?" This conversation ensued... Number sense & flexibility matters :) Math is so fun and beautiful... How many ways can you figure out 13x6?

Does anyone have experience with or resources for Applied Math Modeling courses in high school? (meaning an entire course that solely focuses on the HS *Modeling* standards, similar to what is in the 2014 CA Framework AppB p808ff) drive.google.com/file/d/1hbo7va… #mtbos #iteachmath

💫Helping students to complete assignments isn't an intervention. Intervention is systematically moving a student to mastery on a critical skill using a research-based practice. #LeadInclusion #sblchat #edchat #masterychat #AcademicChatter #ATAssessment #edleaders #teachertwitter

A %-based grading system is inaccurate & unreliable. At best, it's incomplete - % score doesn't account for the type of error made. At worst, when making an indirect scoring inference, it's unreliable - the margin of error among teachers is typically +/- 5-6 points. #ATAssessment

Really intrigued by this approach! It emphasizes the importance of practice in the learning process and as a necessary component in being ready for the "game" (i.e. the summative assessment)

Thoughts on the "homework pass": 1) Is the homework really necessary in the first place? 2) If the practice is important for their learning, why give them a pass not to do it? 3) Rewards that exempt students from learning send the wrong message about the learning.

Zeros can have unintentional effects on student grades when used w/ the percentage scale & averaging. Take a look at the 1st q. learning progressions of 3 Ss below. Does the final grade match their holistic learning level? (Hint: notice their learning trajectories)
