✅ PASSED ASSEMBLY LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE: SB 79 by Senator Scott Wiener that would end the exclusionary housing policies that have made housing more expensive and transit inaccessible, allowing more people to live within walking distance of quality transit and boosting ridership.
I sent a letter to Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky showing that upzoning mostly along commercial corridors (as CHIP does) will exacerbate health disparities. Today, she was the deciding “yes” vote to oppose SB 79, choosing to reinforce social determinants of health and health inequities in LA
The most important transit oriented housing bill in history passed the assembly today, despite Rick Chavez Zbur comments against. Instead he prefers kids grow up on our most dangerous, polluted, loud roads. I’m assuming he’s willing to live directly on Wilshire Blvd himself?
People want housing near transit! let them build housing near transit! Sign SB 79 in full Governor Gavin Newsom
BREAKING NEWS: SB 79 HAS BEEN SIGNED INTO LAW. Thank you to Senator Scott Wiener , Gavin Newsom and cosponsors CA Yimby, Greenbelt Alliance, Inner City Law Center, Bay Area Council, AHLA, and SPUR. for making this bill happen.
AB 382 - SIGNED INTO LAW This bill by Marc Berman will lower school school speed limits and allow cities to use other standards other than “when children are present.”
.Caltrans District 7 is spending millions to put in a bus lane on Santa Monica Bl, but is punting on a 3-block bike lane to connect the two Ohios to each other in West LA. Thank you Rick Chavez Zbur for your leadership — let’s get the Ohio-to-Ohio connector done THIS YEAR!
