#OnThisDay 1941 a boarding party under SLt David Balme from HMS BULLDOG capture the secret Enigma machine from U-110 after depth charging her to the surface.This discovery was one of the greatest ever intelligence coups and undoubtably saved thousands if not millions of lives.

#OnThisDay 1968 HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother opened HM Naval Base Clyde in Faslane. The base was built as the home of the new Polaris Nuclear Submarines and is still the home of Royal Navy SSBNs and will eventually be the home of all RN submarines. Royal Navy in Scotland

#OnThisDay 1982 the Type 22 Frigate HMS BRILLIANT destroyed 3 Argentine Skyhawks in the first operational use of Royal Navy Sea Wolf Missiles. Sea Wolf provided Point Defence for RN ships until earlier this year when it was withdrawn and all T23s will now carry Sea Ceptor.
