History is presenting a real test for the people who have downplayed the president’s anti-democratic words and deeds. Leaders can no longer dodge their responsibilities to our democracy. These responsibilities are bigger than one man or any one party.

As someone who once covered SCOTUS, it's been frustrating to see Trump and allies treat it like a local zoning board where if you pack it with the right people, you can get your development approved.

It’s great there will be a vaccine against COVID. If only, one is tempted to say, there could be a vaccine against demagoguery or authoritarianism! But the absence of moral or political vaccines is, I suppose, the price of human freedom.
