Sophie is out with guests from Australia who have travelled over to walk in the footsteps of their relative. Norman would go through two years of the war, seeing some intense fighting across the Somme & Ypres. He would lose his life in the last action his unit took part in.

A glorious day around the salient today for Sophie's Great War Tours A beautiful butterfly soaking up the autumn sun at Irish House Cemetery.

Finishing our tour today around the salient with Sophie's Great War Tours and I discovered one of our guests met Captain Charles Upham VC & Bar in the early 1970’s. She said he was a quiet unassuming man and at the time she had no idea who he was.

A day of houses today, first Bletchley Park then on to Southwick House and the Map Room. Normandy bound in the morning.

I have just returned from a week in Normandy for National Geographic on what proved to be a very emotional tour. Good to meet Stephen Fisher along the way and get a signed copy of his excellent book Sword Beach.

The glamour of guiding, another early start after my 6th hotel in 7 days.

Homeward bound after three glorious days on the battlefields. Le Touret Memorial, Newfoundland Park, Caterpillar Crater and Vancouver Corner. Good to be working with a couple of uni friends.

Following in the footsteps of family members today we stopped off at a farm that had been a Division collection point for casualty evacuation. The farmer was generous with his time and produced some artefacts to look at. With Sophie's Great War Tours

Cycling in Hereford/Gloucestershire borders this weekend the highlight being St Mary’s Church, Kempley. Owned by English Heritage it contains medieval wall paintings from the 12th century. Covered during the reformation and rediscovered in 1872 they are extraordinary.

The cement works dominates the town but this morning it caught the sunlight in a way I have never seen before just for a fleeting moment.

Out fundraising tonight for Royal British Legion

A short walk from the road to Marokopa Falls then on to the black sands of Marokopa Beach with Waitomo Caves later. #NewZealand is truly beautiful.

Lucky today to see a fly past over Wellington of the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s C-130H Hercules. The iconic aircraft have been retired from service after 60 years and have been flying over the country as their final farewell.
