We’ve misunderstood the force-velocity curve. It’s not that the curve is wrong, it’s that we’re using it wrong. You can’t compare a squat (2–3 sec effort) with a sprint contact (milliseconds) on the same curve. The time context matters. Comparing total force from a squat to

Make no mistake, the great ones love being coached. I think a lot of people see professional athletes getting extra work in by themselves, and think they got to where they are by doing on their own. No, they got there by being coached and have learned how to coach themselves.

I used to think I knew speed. That was over 15 years ago. Then I learned agility. That was over 8 years ago. But what we are about to come out with is something I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE 100% ON IN MY SPORTS TRAINING CAREER.

Most people only think of Sports Performance training in the terms of preparing the athlete to play the game. The purpose of Sports Performance training is to prepare the athlete to practice at a high level. High level practice=High level competitive performance.

This Is The Technique a 7th Grader Should Be Back Squatting With. If it doesn’t look like this - there’s a 99% chance there’s too much weight on the bar, and/or the kids never been taught correctly before.

Everyone talks about “hitting it hard” in the summer. Let’s say your team trains 3days/week for 8 weeks. 24 total sessions. If you miss: 1 time= 4.1% (95.8%) 2 times= 8.3% (91.6%) 3 times= 12.5% (87.5%) 6 times= 25% (75%) 9 times= 37.5% (62.5%) How committed are you?

Often times the more “fancy” or “complex” a drill or exercise looks. The more useless it is. Simple means executed with high intent always win.

Here’s a hard truth Working hard is only a separator at the entry level. Working hard doesn’t make you special. It’s a predetermined non-negotiable

You can show up every single day and not get one bit better. It takes what it takes to be Good, Great, or Elite. The ball is completely in your court.

I’m a big believer in Cody Hughes stoplight system and have used it for our in-season athletes in the weight room the last few years… working to develop a stoplight system for our speed/game speed days

She’s a beauty! Just got done building a 3-4 man Maskill Sled. Great conditioning tool. Long forgotten about since the Prowler but highly effective. If you want the plans to make… I can share. Will cost $300 for you to build. Enjoy! #conditioning #speed #strength #train

I’ve had a few people ask me for this so I’m reposting it. Simple way to show sport coaches that intensity isn’t the enemy during in-season training. Rather, volume and time under tension are. Then, get them to understand it’s exactly the same when it comes to practices.

I am here to tell yall. HS kids are much faster than you think when compared to their NFL heroes. They naturally lack size and explosion (that will come as they grow). BUT THEY ARE THE MOST INEFFICIENT AT MOVEMENT DRILLS more than speed. Isn't even close!

Tony Villani (@tony_villani_) 's Twitter Profile Photo

There should be a simple way to educate kids and let them know their strengths and weaknesses compared to NFL Players so they could target their weaknesses if they are doing extra work? Just imagine! Coming soon.

If you can't get your athletes in weight training during the school day, find a different school. If that's not a thing in your area, find a different area. We're trying to win games out here, folks.

Its's that time of year again! Friendly PSA reminder to all my HS football guys out there as we head into fall camp. Don't forget to cut the intensity and increase volume as you head into your in-season phase! Maintenance is 🔑 "Low weight high reps, right coach?" 😂😂
