The IDS takes home TWO Pacemakers this year, including for print. The Pacemaker recognizes the best of student publications. Including, yes, printed newspapers. In case you hadn’t heard, IU Media School!

Huge huge honor to be a finalist for the Student Press Law Center Courage in Student Journalism Award. The Indiana Daily Student staff deserves all the recognition for their bravery while reporting on the Israel-Hamas war in the face of harassment and backlash.

Today Indiana Daily Student won two ACP Pacemakers — multiplatform and newspaper — and received 1st nationally for our “No confidence” in the student media plan paper. I’m honored to help lead a fantastic staff, who all deserve support from IU Media School and IU Bloomington — not cuts 1/2

I couldn’t be more proud of Indiana Daily Student for winning these national and prestigious awards and being recognized as one of the best newspapers in the country. This is the paper IU Bloomington wants to cut.

Former IDS EIC Salomé Cloteaux was also a finalist for the Courage in Student Journalism award from Southern Poverty Law Center for her letter from the editor about the IDS’ Israel-Hamas war coverage. She wrote the letter despite receiving death threats and pressure from administrators. 2/2

Indiana Lieutenant Governor-elect Micah Beckwith threatened the IDS and IU in an X post Tuesday over the IDS’ Nov. 7 front cover, which featured a photo illustration of President-elect Donald Trump with quotes from his former political allies. idsnews.com/article/2024/1…

After threatening Indiana Daily Student on social media ("We will be happy to stop it for them"), incoming Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith doubles down in an interview with the student-run publication. idsnews.com/article/2024/1… 🗣️ Let's be clear: The First Amendment prohibits content-based

Reminder that the IDS’ print paper is being cut next semester and now the lieutenant governor.-elect is threatening the newsroom for reporting facts. Apparently state leaders have no appetite for healthy student journalism and would rather see it fail.

🚨 NEWS: Indiana University fires its student media adviser and attempts to control content in what SPLC's Mike Hiestand calls "blatant censorship": indystar.com/story/news/edu…

Salomé Cloteaux (@cloteauxsalome) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is censorship. I am appalled by IU’s blatant disregard for the First Amendment and the rights of student journalists. It was a privilege to work with Jim during my time at the IDS. Please read this letter and support the IDS and student media.

IU previously directed the Indiana Daily Student to stop printing news coverage in our paper. Upon pushback, IU fully cut print, including our special editions. The IDS was not involved in the decision. Letter from the editors to come.

Breaking: IU entirely cuts the print production of the IDS's newspaper hours after an adviser was fired and amid a power struggle over whether news would be published in the newspaper.

Indiana University fired professor Jim Rodenbush allegedly for refusing to censor the @IDSnews student paper. Admin ordered students to strip everything “but homecoming info” from a recent edition, but Rodenbush upheld the First Amendment, a decision FIRE fully supports.

Absolutely shameful. Not sure why IU has professors teach students about the 1st Amendment if the administration likes to disregard it in practice. It’s never been more clear they want the IDS to fail. Kudos though to Jim Rodenbush for standing up for student journalists.

The Indiana Daily Student has over $400K to spend, but the former adviser said administrators hamstrung his ability to use those funds, worsening the newspaper's deficit spending. Of note: Mark Cuban's recent $250K donation nearly matches the deficit indystar.com/story/news/edu…
