Huge huge honor to be a finalist for the Student Press Law Center Courage in Student Journalism Award. The Indiana Daily Student staff deserves all the recognition for their bravery while reporting on the Israel-Hamas war in the face of harassment and backlash.

Former IDS EIC Salomé Cloteaux was also a finalist for the Courage in Student Journalism award from Southern Poverty Law Center for her letter from the editor about the IDS’ Israel-Hamas war coverage. She wrote the letter despite receiving death threats and pressure from administrators. 2/2

This is censorship. I am appalled by IU’s blatant disregard for the First Amendment and the rights of student journalists. It was a privilege to work with Jim during my time at the IDS. Please read this letter and support the IDS and student media.

IU previously directed the Indiana Daily Student to stop printing news coverage in our paper. Upon pushback, IU fully cut print, including our special editions. The IDS was not involved in the decision. Letter from the editors to come.

Breaking: IU entirely cuts the print production of the IDS's newspaper hours after an adviser was fired and amid a power struggle over whether news would be published in the newspaper.

Indiana University fired professor Jim Rodenbush allegedly for refusing to censor the @IDSnews student paper. Admin ordered students to strip everything “but homecoming info” from a recent edition, but Rodenbush upheld the First Amendment, a decision FIRE fully supports.

Absolutely shameful. Not sure why IU has professors teach students about the 1st Amendment if the administration likes to disregard it in practice. It’s never been more clear they want the IDS to fail. Kudos though to Jim Rodenbush for standing up for student journalists.
