A clear and alarming visual animation that contextualizes what we can feel and see. It’s not hypothetical anymore; it’s happening, and we're entering uncharted (rising, warming) water. We have tools to decarbonize and adapt faster, and we need your help-plz vote w/ this in mind!

The total amount of metals needed for the energy transition (that can also be recycled) is far smaller than the total weight of fossil fuels we burn away each year. Net zero means more metals, but less extraction from the Earth. My newsletter this week: bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Here’s a simple way to illustrate how the warming rate has increased over the past few decades. It’s an extrapolation of the linear trend of global avg temp in 2000 vs the same for 2024. In 2024 we reach +1.5C by 2030. In 2000 the trend showed 2041. Tool via Copernicus.

The now-confirmed and rumored additional cuts to come at NOAA/NWS are spectacularly short-sighted, and ultimately will deal a major self-inflicted wound to the public safety of Americans and the resiliency of the American economy to weather and climate-related disasters. 11/11

The village of Blatten in Switzerland is partly buried by the collapse of a glacier which melted because our greenhouse gas emissions warmed the climate. Another reminder that not investing enough today to reduce emissions means far greater costs for society in the long term.
