Today, Chicago Tribune laid off five guild staff members in a roughly 10% cut to our newsroom. These layoffs underscore a sad but unsurprising failure of leadership by Alden Global Capital, our hedge fund owner, and local management.

I don’t post on this platform anymore, but today is an exception. I’ve been laid off by the Chicago Tribune. It was a joy working with so many amazing people in this newsroom.

I truly believe that housing is one of the most important issues of our time. I hope you will see my byline again soon. I have too many questions left unanswered for anyone to shut me up for long :) If you know of other journalism opportunities out there, please let me know

A loss at the Tribune is a loss for all of Chicago. Such amazing staff who covered a wide variety of Chicago news. We need more reporters, not less. Shame on Alden Global Capital.

I was laid off today by the Chicago Tribune as were several talented colleagues. I was able to report several dream stories during my year or so there, but partially, I had that freedom because “leadership” is completely absentee unless it affects their bottom line.

Four months after landing a dream job covering the Bears in my home city, the Chicago Tribune informed me yesterday that my position has been cut. I’m proud of the work I did and grateful to everyone who helped me along the way.
