Chicago just passed $70M to fund migrant care.

That adds to $150M already budgeted by the city for basics like housing & food. The funding — matching $250M from the state & county — got harsh opposition from some Black aldermen who said their struggling wards deserve money more.

Ald. Martin told me he was 'wait and see' when CTA President Dorval Carter testified to City Council in December.

Who is trying to keep ShotSpotter in Chicago?

The aldermen leading neighborhoods hardest hit by gun violence overwhelmingly want ShotSpotter in their wards. In the 17 top shooting victimization wards, 14 alders want to keep the tech. For Chicago Tribune:

This is a story that SF reporters and politicos have been whispering about for years.

Props to Josh Koehn for finally getting this out and the courage of the women who shared their experiences.
