If you want children to understand books you need to make space for them to talk about books. If you want children to love books you need to make time for them to talk about books.

I tied some ribbon around some of my books and told my class they couldn’t touch them, and never has anything generated as much book talk as this 😅

Sometimes golden oldies are just as good! My new year 4 class are OBSESSED with Krindlekrax and I had forgotten just how much I used to love Philip Ridley! #OldieButGoodie

When the class have got independent reading time, don't tidy up a Geography display or sort out the ruler drawer. Sit with them and read too. Share the book you're enjoying and ask them about their choices. The impact on attitudes to reading will be massive.
