This is what Hilary Cass was talking about when she referred to the toxicity of the debate about healthcare for gender questioning children - academics being too scared to do research because of the risk of gender activists ruining their reputation.

NYC, 1930s (colorized)

Have you ever felt that the average person dressed better in the past? IMO, the reason has nothing to do with respectability, body shape, or even suits.

It has to do with the loss of what I call 'shape and drape.' 🧵

Hardly anyone commenting negatively on the Cass review has actually read it. Because if they had, they'd realise the reason why the U of York threw out so many studies and guidelines was because they were dependent on circular reasoning. Excellent thread here on that.

Their political engagement and energy makes them the backbone of lots of important campaigns but they are also significantly over represented on social media which means their voice (& frustrations) can often be taken to reflect a bigger proportion of the population than they are

The shorter Raynergate can be summed up as “the Tories understand their numbers for trust and probity have been in the toilet since Johnson, B. so their only hope is to promote a general air of ‘all at it’”. Deeply cynical, corrosive to politics and extremely unlikely to work.

Inequality in the UK is overwhelmingly *within* generations, not between them. .

Not about old vs young/'privileged boomers', but income and wealth inequality.

(As I've been saying for last decade..)
