Today, I had the pleasure of visiting with National Superintendent of the Year Dr. Walter Gonsoulin to personally commend him on his leadership in Alabama’s education system. A job well done! #alpolitics

I’ve spent a lot of time in Kindergarten classrooms lately and there is an overwhelming need for more explicit handwriting instruction and practice. The teachers are maxed out with everything they are already doing m but something has to give.

We have a limited amount of attention - and less fluent readers need to use that attention to DECODE rather than COMPREHEND. They don't have a lot of brain space leftover to make sense of what they're reading... bc they are focusing on sounding out each word, or group of words.
