It was great taking part in the discussion with Children and Young People's Commissioner Scotland SQA: Where's Our Say? and Scottish Youth Parliament tonight. The current system which has been developed is not fit for purpose. One of the most important issues is exceptional circumstances. I have personally experienced a bereavement this year(1)

If true co-production/co-design was happening as often as it is (inaccurately) mentioned, children and young people would be far better off right now. Sadly, the power shift required to make that happen still feels a long way off.

This. There’s a fine line between involvement and tokenism. Sadly too many don’t take this into account.

Engaging ≠ listening. Do better.

Seeing Qualifications Scotland talk about listening to us but then doing the opposite is disappointing to say the least. Scottish Youth Parliament, Children and Young People's Commissioner Scotland and SQA: Where's Our Say? have been working so hard to get young people be heard, getting nothing in return. The news today, of the appeals procedure in Scotland fills me with anger and sadness, but overall, the feeling of being let down, the feeling that Scotland has been let down.

Involving young people doesn't just mean listening to them when they agree with you. Meaningful participation means listening and responding to young people's voices when they tell you what they need, even if it doesn't match your original ideas.
