Me, an autistic person: No one would ever recognize me as someone who needs extra kindness. I unintentionally mask my feelings and needs way too well. I would probably be sad and confused that someone else was receiving extra positive attention when I need it but can't ask for it

Yes. Real stories about people suffering with no end in sight who have little chance of "MIRACULOUSLY OVERCOMING AND OVERACHIEVING" are valid and way more helpful to those who have a similar experience. Just knowing you're not alone and that being you is enough is huge.

Going to college for the first time at 51 after living most of my life in a cult and only having an 8th grade education hasn't been easy. But I took my first NYU final exams this week and I'm glad I decided to educate myself. It's never too late. It's tough, but it's worth it.

Every time someone on here goes "y'all are overreacting, the Republicans arent banni-" some legislator in Missouri rolls up his sleeves and gets ready to write the craziest law you've ever heard

ADHD'ers are told over and over by our neurotypical society that we're doing something wrong and that the solution is to try harder. This isn't helpful. What would really help is compassion and tangible supports that reduce our struggles and celebrate our achievements

“It’s okay not to be okay” as long as
-you keep going to work -it doesn’t affect your work -you don’t ‘moan’ about it -you don’t neglect your hygiene -it doesn’t affect others -it doesn’t go on too long Basically, as long it doesn’t show 🙃 /s #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

It’s still so surreal that like once a week, the author of my favorite childhood books will pop up on here to be like “I didn’t mean for my bestselling fantasy series about an outcast child finding acceptance and chosen family to make YOU FREAKS feel any better though!”

my boss was like “people working from home are just pretending to work” and it’s like, dude, what do you think i’m doing in the office?

Just because a student does not raise their hand, does not mean that they are not thinking deeply about the content. We need to broaden what we mean by engagement in our classrooms/schools. This will invite/value more students in the learning process.

Yes, there is no intrinsic meaning or purpose in your life. This is difficult; it’s also the reason there’s possibility for you. The task of living is to invent meaning and purpose, and then invent it again. It’s work. Much of the time it’s painful. Sometimes, it’s also joy. 3/
