This day 102 years ago – 11 November 1918 – the First World War ended. Over 210,000 Irish-born soldiers fought, the majority with the United Kingdom. 4,731 also fought with Australia and 19,327 with Canada. At least 30,986 Irish-born soldiers were killed; some estimate 40,000.

This day 100 years ago – 21 November 1920 – 14 men were shot dead on the orders of Michael Collins. Later, members of the Royal Irish Constabulary Auxiliary Division opened fire at a Gaelic football match in Croke Park, killing 14 people. The day became known as ‘Bloody Sunday.’
