Words matter. I am proud to stand with 13 other councillor-elects, trustee-elects, council candidates and trustee candidates in signing on to this open letter calling for Hamilton Spectator to make amends for their anti-Black racism. #JournalisticIntegrity #HamOnt

This evening AfroCanCarib members celebrated the reopening of 423 King Street building, after renovations last year. HCCI, Disability Justice Network of Ontario & HCBN are tenants in the building. We look forward to continuing to utilize this space as a community centre for all #HamOnt residents.

On this day in 1959, 69 black boys were padlocked in their dormitory at school and it was then set on fire. 21 burnt to death while 48 managed to escape. A THREAD.

To everyone mad in the comments: 1) Your anti Black racism is showing. I'm the first Somali woman elected in Canada. There is nothing wrong with me reaching out to Ilhan Omar 2) I have tons of meetings booked with local electeds as well. 3) I don't give in to bots or bullies.

The results of the complaint I filed with the City of Hamilton's Integrity Commissioners are in - police board members cannot, in fact, vote on the police budget if they have immediate family on the force. I've been saying it for years. Glad to have it in black and white. #HamOnt
