From Reddit.

Service manager complaining about doctors asking for higher rates to cover locum shifts.

'I feel slightly powerless as if I say no, what other options are there?'

You've described the free market, and understand that individuals can value their time as they wish.

I'd encourage all colleagues across the Midlands to consider joining me in this session. There is much to do in tackling racism and it starts with a personal understanding. I will seek to honestly share my progress on this path and encourage you on yours.

📷Take a look at the construction of our expanded Neonatal Unit at the Queen’s Medical Centre.

The photos show the current progress, including the demolition of the old unit, the preparation and levelling of the floor, and putting up partitions for the new internal walls.

What do we know about the F1 career transition? Starting work as a is a challenging time. WenWang has researched this period, and in this episode of Doctors at Work she tells me that many of the challenges revolve around uncertainty. Senior doctors can help new doctors

It is sad to witness the silence from hospitals & different healthcare organisations in the UK about

Sometimes being a doctor in the UK feels like a paradox. The buck stops with us but we also need to 'tiptoe' around & 'play down' what we do. Or else.

And this is why if I’m ever on a shift with a rota gap I do each of the following three things:

1. Datix
2. Exception report, marking “immediate patient safety concern”
3. Document in every patient’s notes I review “care delayed due to rota gap for XXX (eg. SHO/F1) doctor”

'Women are routinely underestimated, overlooked, interrupted, talked over or mistaken for someone more junior at the workplace.' Mary Ann Sieghart calls this the 'authority gap' and her @tedtalks which is out now is a must watch.

I've put down a few thoughts on NHS job offer negotiation.

TL;DR: Don’t say yes immediately. Prepare carefully. Work out what you want. Plan the conversation. Don’t be an idiot about it.

We are in the 'Women in leadership: A celebration and call for enhancement' workshop and the attendees are overwhelmingly female. It's time to reflect on progress and get radically honest - it would be great to have more men engaged in the conversation!

Learning about the different imposter syndrome Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management this morning.

I have to ask - how do we encourage women to go after everything they want personally and professionally, without creating a superhero imposter? Leaders Plus

How many of the nurses in your organisation get meaningful appraisals with meaningful consequences- good or bad?
How can you care for carers if you don't care?
How can you care for patients if you don't care for carers?
