I always wanted to highlight how does Language Barrier affect the Journalism in #SriLanka, and keep us seperated from each other. This clip is just an example, taken from #Dawasa Newsfirst.lk Sri Lanka What did she tell? What did he translate? What did he understand? #EconomicCrisisLK

Loved moderating this conversation on “labour reform for inclusive growth” hosted by Advocata Institute. Horrifying to hear just how outdated labour law in #lka is, how long labour tribunal cases take & the scarcity of alternative dispute mechanisms.

Stories from the road: “When I am on my period, I say I have a headache so I can walk all the way home during my lunch break to change my pad… and when the supervisor is a man, we feel uncomfortable talking to him about such matters…” - female estate worker (Gampola)

Female estate workers lack access to changing facilities at their workplace. This means that they have to walk home in arduous conditions to change their sanitary napkin. Sadly, the social stigma regarding menstruation makes it difficult to speak up and have their needs heard.

“We need to eradicate period poverty. We need to make sure everyone who needs period products can access them, for free, in a dignified way.” Vote Monica Lennon #globalperiodpovertyforum #GPPF22

Suzanne is often asked about the cost of making period products free to those in need, her answer: “This is what it costs to not do it. If we don’t have period products available to those who need them people miss school and work, there is a huge economic cost.”

There were so many important takeaways but some of them were: -Menstruation is a human rights issue -We need to teach boys about periods -We need to implement menstrual health management policies -We need a SDG goal around periods -We need to standardise pads globally

"We can’t study all our lessons if we don’t have exercise books and pencils. They’ll hit us. We just sit and watch other people studying." For The National, I reported on the education crisis on Sri Lanka's tea estates. This story broke my heart. thenationalnews.com/weekend/2023/0…

Is NPP making it up as they go along? Do they have a clear policy and stance? Part 1: Posture on their violent history. On one side, back in 2012, AKD apologized for the 6000 lives lost that they were responsible for in 88/89 and the 70k youth who died in the insurrection.
