I agree Benjamin T. Jones has nailed it.. and I wish more PhD students had attended, I met so many wonderful historians.. but the opportunity to meet and hear about other PhD research was the highlight (apart from cornering Graeme Davidson for a whole night!!!)

An interesting and informative article; agree that Australian aid should support equality. On the other hand, I am uncomfortable that Australia continues to dictate how our aid is spent. This article is not necessarily arguing for this, but we should be mindful of neocolonialism!

Watched the first 2 episodes of the ‘hot’ show of the moment.. & yes it invaded my sleep! Highly recommend the show but also the podcast. Excellent re: backstory and truth/fiction issues #twitterstorians

Terence Wood writes that the media is overstating how much aid China gives #PNG & the Pacific. "If Australia is to navigate a changing Pacific, its domestic conversations need to be driven by facts, not misunderstood data," he says asopa.typepad.com/asopa_people/2…

If you visit Port Moresby, you soon become aware of the profusion of private security forces in #PNG's national capital. Now Sinclair Dinnen & Grant Walton have written a fascinating piece on their growth & operations asopa.typepad.com/asopa_people/2…

Excellent article, point 5 the big one (especially post-war). The Australian Administration needed to co-opt the support of Indigenous Papua New Guineans to maintain control of their colony.

Last night saw the outstanding #TheAustralianDream movie. Excellent production, and whilst I am firmly in the #AdamGoodes camp (including calling out a few ‘booing’ supporter friends at the time), however I commend the producers for trying to provide a balanced perspective.

I spend my days digging through 70 year old patrol reports, I really enjoy the Kiap reflections like this one from Chris Overland.
