I saw a very interesting debate on here yesterday, with the topic "What Makes it African Literature?" Essentially, what makes a writing African? Personally, I subscribe to Achebe's translanguaging framework. I find Ngugi's vernacularization pretentious & unliterary. 👇

Sina Source William Samoei Ruto, PhD This is how the Kenya kwanza regime has presided over the intellectual death of the Kenyan state. Expecting to govern humans without any knowledge of humanities. Personally, I am a scientist, but none of my profession made sense until I started reading philosophy

"Why don't people go out and vote?" Suppresses vote and compromises electoral commission "Why don't people just participate in legislative processes?" Ignores and compromises public participation. "Why don't people protest peacefully?" Shoots live bullets at peaceful protesters

I have witnessed the kind of protests we saw in Kenya before: in Tahrir Square, in Libya, Bahrain and Syria. The style of protests, the nature of the protesters and the incompetent, brutal response of the authorities are all out of the Tahrir Square playbook /1 of a short 🧵

This is a philosophy that is NOT taught in Western economics schools: "We build economies to serve the people, we don’t crush people in order to serve economies." Nanjala Nyabola theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Kumbe police stations have a resident chaplain? Bwana some female police officer came to pray for those going to court that Tuesday morning, the Gen Zs in my cell asked her to go pray for Ruto instead. Bwana there was no one to hold me.

C. S. Lewis has the highest idea-per-sentence density of any writer I've ever read, highlighting is pointless, it's all yellow

Marathons are insanely difficult to do. To run 42.2 km at near sprinting distance is insane. To do it at the level Kipchoge has done it for as long as he has done it is nothing short of amazing. One race does not a career make.

(I wish more Kenyans ran recreationally so they could have a better appreciation for how insanely fast these speeds and ridiculously long these distances are. No Mutisya and Wanjiku, *you* cannot run 10KM in 30 minutes. 😅)
