Wondering how to address a group of people? Woke enough to avoid "you guys", but "y'all" sounds weird coming from your face? vosotros.glitch.me is here to help you out! 🎉

I wonder if the lack of oxygen aids in achieving compromise. I guess all meetings should be held outside in a nearby park. Also, I hope you don't work in an office with 2 others?

Imagine being an expert on causal inference and concluding from all available evidence that hundreds of smart people aren’t using your methods because they’re too stubborn and the policy implication is you need to tell them that on Twitter everyday.

I apparently have a bit of a reputation as someone who is anti-machine learning or anti-AI when it comes to human research. This is a bit of misrepresentation of my views, and (I'd argue) a misrepresentation of the issues "statistics people" take with AI/ML as a whole. (THREAD)

Probability is one that never fail to amazed me. I might have only basic knowledge of it. But it is easily one of my favorite part of #Mathematics . If you are like me then you can't miss keynote at #fsharpx by Maria Gorinova . #fsharp #machinelearning

I've made this cheat sheet and I think it's important. Most stats 101 tests are simple linear models - including "non-parametric" tests. It's so simple we should only teach regression. Avoid confusing students with a zoo of named tests. lindeloev.github.io/tests-as-linea… 1/n

shower thoughts: gah, I got the conditioner instead of the shampoo again. I should think about the processes and environment that lead me to make this mistake and work on that. wait. is this what I sound like all the time? I really am exhausting to be around.

You guys! I just received the first report of somebody using my #betterposter design at an academic conference. THEY WON THE 1ST-PLACE AWARD FOR BEST POSTER — and got compliments on how clearly it communicated. Congrats, Eugene Ofosu, PhD! Cartoon again: youtube.com/watch?v=1RwJbh…

External peer review at Science began in the 1950s because the editors found "the job of refereeing and suggesting revisions for hundreds of technical papers is neither the best use of their time nor pleasant, satisfying work." You don't say. (p543 journals.uchicago.edu/doi/abs/10.108…)

The known universe is a cold, dark, lonely place. The universe of the unknowns (i.e. the posterior distribution) just got a little brighter, thanks to the work of Aki Vehtari - @[email protected] et al. which was described by the co-author @dan_p_simpson in this post: statmodeling.stat.columbia.edu/2019/03/19/may…

#Statistics thought of the day: Seek probability of a real difference given data, not prob. of data given no real difference. Be bold. Embrace Bayes. Embrace transparent criticizable use of prior beliefs & operate in a predictive actionable mode. fharrell.com/post/journey

Thinking again this morning that so much scientific writing is bad because it is written for hostile reviewers rather than for interested readers. Not sure there is a way out of this trap.

If you've studied utilitarian ethics, you know that you can't get the utility of an entire society just by adding up the utilities of individual people. There are entire books on this "aggregation" issue in welfare economics. It comes down to the ethics of inequality.
