If you're feeling super enticed by 5% savings account rates, maybe you should take a hard look at this chart Stocks have outperformed cash at the peak of interest rates in five out of the last 8 economic cycles (and all of the last four) High rates ≠ hide in a bunker

When has the Fed cut rates in a Presidential election year? Since 1994, the Fed has explicitly targeted the funds rates ... 2020 - drove rates to zero by February in response to the Pandemic/lockdowns 2008 - cut from 4% to zero in response to the Global Financial Crisis 1996

30 year old has $50k saved for retirement Plans to save $200/month but mostly let compounding do the heavy lifting for the next 35 years (assumes 7% ROI) No debt Is that enough to be comfortable in retirement by age 65? I have some thoughts: awealthofcommonsense.com/2024/01/coasti…

No debt

Every recession since 1970 before COVID had both higher rates and materially higher oil prices, whereas every soft landing had benign energy prices. It's not surprising that the equity market has rallied as commodity prices weakened.

Some interesting ideas. We stress to invest according to your goals-based financial plan. Match your assets (savings/investments) to the expected timeframe of your liabilities (needs/goals). And a dynamic plan changes as your personal situation changes. bloomberg.com/features/how-t…

More comparisons of present day to the economy of the 1920s - both post pandemic with emerging technologies. That despite high rates and inflation worries, economic and job growth will remain more robust than most expect. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Diversify & time- these are investment goals. Why? Approx. 40% of Russell 3000 stocks lost most their value from 1980-2015. Approx. 22% of months between 1900-2019 were in/near recession. Don't try to pick winners & time in the market more important than timing the market.

Two key 401k stats. First, almost 30% of high-saving 401ks balances came from employers (each year employer contributions increased 401ks by $4,600). Second, the average high-savings 401k is 30yrs old. If you can't start early - use catch-ups to boost the total saved.

All assets have their good and bad years. What's important is understanding why you own what you own and what may change that. In our experience, a change in an investors asset allocation is most commonly changed as a result of their personal situation. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
