Starmer implied, and I am not exaggerating, that his sellout of the Chagossians was somehow necessary to defend the people of Greenland from US aggression. You do reach a point where the layers of absurdist deceit become almost impossible to pick through spectator.com/article/i-have…

Once again, I post this Auschwitz Memorial photo of Istvan Reiner, as I do every year on #HolocaustMemorialDay. The Nazis had given him a ticket punch to play with. Such a radiant, happy little soul, innocent and pure. And then they gassed him, and snuffed him out. #NeverForget🕯️

In an otherwise good segment on the Today Programme, Nick Robinson repeated the lie that the Government wants to give the Chagos *back* to Mauritius when Mauritius never owned the islands. It's very basic, very sloppy stuff for people who claim to be concerned abt disinformation

The framing matters because that it presents a highly questionable decision as a fait accomplit, even a form of justice. In reality, Chagossians are treated as second-class citizens in Mauritius, where the govt have even attempted to criminalise expressions of Chagossian identity

It matters that the BBC essentially participates in this by implying it's a restoration of some kind of inherent justice, when in fact it plays into the hands of a country that treats Chagossians appallingly. A small choice of words perhaps but also important and revealing

If you want to see the best and worst of the Commons, watch Catherine West's snippy response to Geoffrey Cox. Disoriented by a rare display of brilliance in the Commons, she can only call him patronising (inevitably, before reading off a sheet) and her colleagues can only jeer

It's sort of the opposite of "game recognises game" Zero game recognises game but enviously resents it. Lacking the wit to respond through argument, she throws a strop instead

One of the problems with being someone who cares about and wants to defend institutions is that they insist on behaving in indefensible ways, promote things which are against their interests and pander to the agendas not of those who love them but those who will always hate them.

An extremely grim sight to watch Labour MPs vote to remove trial by jury because the whips told them to, after a debate in which expertise& learning were laughed at. This form of governance, the ill-intentioned leading the ill-informed, is sadly our future spectator.com/article/david-…

I’m not a Christian Nationalist- as past writings will tell- but the irony of people like “Prof” Roberts, who have been putting out hardcore anti religion bigotry for decades, now clutching pearls about something being anti ‘all other religions and worldviews’ is hilarious.

A website called MyIQ.com scammed an elderly relative of mine out of money, by advertising one fee and then concealing their real terms of service. I hate companies which operate like this, it shouldn't be allowed

Very good news that both Reform UK and the Tories have pledged to reverse the Government’s characteristically spiteful cultural vandalism, by restoring the VAT exemption for repairs on church buildings. People who are safeguarding the nation’s heritage shouldn’t be punished

Magnificent in-joke in the Brick Testament as the Witch of Endor in 1Samuel 28 appears to have a petrified Ewok amongst her accoutrements.
