Pope Francis made being Catholic less morally suffocating. This is heartbreaking news for the faithful, and for those like me who only slowly found their way to faith because someone at the helm reminded us that the Church could also be a place to breathe.

A Jesuit Pope always felt right. Pope Francis walked with the poor, the queer, the women, the cast aside. He faced fire among the conservatives, but he never wavered. He's a moral compass in a dark, chaotic world. Rest easy, Lolo Kiko. Thank you for giving us hope.

To die on an Easter Monday is so poetic, but this one hurts differently. A truly progressive Pope—one who did not hesitate to ask the hard questions and speak on difficult issues. One who did not mince his words, when everyone else was silent. Rest in power, Pope Francis.
