A short thread on the Punjab Forensic Science Authority. In March, the Punjab government passed a controversial law creating a new forensic body directly under the Chief Minister Punjab and staffed largely by bureaucrats.

The 2007 law required the DG of the forensic body to be a qualified expert. The 2025 law scraps that requirement. Most troubling: the DG was to now serve at the “pleasure” of the Chief Minister and can be removed at will. Earlier, removal was only possible on defined grounds

The govt has changed the existing contracts also. With the IPPS if they had to threaten and bully, in this case the decision has just been announced
