Even as Native American Heritage Month comes to an end, you can still continue to learn more about their culture and traditions through some of our paintings at SLUMA. Here are three paintings by George Catlin (1796-1872) who wanted to document #NativeAmerican Heritage.

🦬 Native Americans used every part of what the Buffalo could provide as they relied on them to eat, create tools, provide shelter, and much more. Unfortunately, the Buffalo were almost considered extinct in an attempt from European settlers to remove Native American tribes.

💫 Native Americans held many ceremonies. They spend the night singing, dancing, and supporting the players who will participate in ball-play, as the individuals’s status and recognition within the tribe will be shown. #nativeamericanheritagemonth #nativeamerican #museum #art

We were honored to host Congresswoman Cori Bush this past weekend. She celebrated the artistic achievements of high schoolers across St. Louis who submitted artwork to the Congressional Art Competition. You can see the winners and all submissions at SLUMA now through July 9th.

Two of our Baer Foundation Scholars, Weronika and Lana, developed an exhibition about the 1904 World's Fair held in St. Louis. Come see their work and learn about SLU's connection with the fair on the second floor of Pius Library.

We are honored to exhibit the spectacular work of Disney animator @marlonw at SLUMA. Ink Tributes, which celebrates the lives of individuals who have experienced police brutality, opens August 25th.

Also opening August 25 at SLUMA is Divergent Paths, which examines how artists from different periods and artistic movements have worked in divergent styles. The exhibition features works by artists like Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and Wassily Kandinsky.

Next week, our friends at Pet Partners will join us at the Cupples House from 10am to noon. Take a break from studying to pet the animals and visit our museums!

Thanks again to Jupiter and his handler, Linda, for visiting us last week! Our Baer scholars Charlotte and Natalie organized this event for their semester project to encourage the community to take a study break and visit our museums. We hope to have Jupiter back soon!
