Dr. Barry Houlihan Archive Hour ISACS Macnas 100% agreed. I'd love to see the traditions surrounding Lá an Dreoilín (The Day of the Wren/ St Stephen's Day/ 26th December) in Dingle, Co. Kerry, added. This includes the wren boys, the fife & drum bands marching & playing, and possibly food & drink traditions.

Massive thanks to all who followed us as we hosted Archive Hour last Thursday, and especially to our 3 fab guests Dr. Barry Houlihan (@UniOfGalwayASC) Maeve Gebruers (@ITMADublin) & Lisa Collins Shortall (@HeritageHubIRE ). You can still follow & contribute to the convo at #ArchiveHour .
Archive Hour ISACS BONUS #ArchiveHour One example on this is the archive of @macnas from Galway and its history of street performance, spectacle and story telling - and how the archive captures that artform locally and around the world by Macnas on tour over the years. calmview.co.uk/NUIG/CalmView/…
Archive Hour Q3 #ArchiveHour Keeping ICH alive is often down to work of activists and local groups. For something like minority language rights & ephemerality of campaigns see digitised Conradh na Gaeilge ⭕️ material digitised as part of project by Niamh Ní Charra Aisling Keane & others

Lisa Collins Shortall Archive Hour ITMA Niamh Ní Charra ARA Ireland Yes well done all! Thanks for all great discussions and more take away points to be thinking on!
Archive Hour Q3 #archivehour Preserving the documentation done in the past is also important e.g. recent work by Digitisation team of University of Galway Library Archives & the photographs of hurling and sliotar making in the 1950s by US photographer George Pickow digital.library.universityofgalway.ie/p/ms/search?di…
Archive Hour ARA Ireland Q4 #ArchiveHour For an example of oral history work see the Tuam Oral History Project, led by my colleague Dr Sarah-Anne Buckley & others of how survivor led testimony was collected and digitally preserved and shared here at University of Galway Library Archives digital.library.universityofgalway.ie/p/ms/categorie…
Archive Hour BONUS #ArchiveHour So much to consider - There is such a rich & uniquely Irish history in performing arts here, especially circus (art, practice, craft, lifestyle, language, families) that should be actively preserved. For more see the work of ISACS and their members.
Archive Hour Lisa Collins Shortall Dr. Barry Houlihan Niamh Ní Charra ARA Ireland Not sure where that hour went too! Thanks to Niamh Ní Charra ARA Ireland & Archive Hour for inviting me. Lots of food for thought!
Archive Hour ITMA Dr. Barry Houlihan Niamh Ní Charra ARA Ireland That was quick! Thanks for inviting me, I really enjoyed it. #ArchiveHour
Archive Hour Q7 #ArchiveHour Maintain an ongoing dialogue & plan about how & where the material will be accessed. Avoid the archive repository as being called 'owner'. Also be honest to assess the gaps in your own collecting policy and be informed around best ways to respond to that gap.
Huge thanks to our guests tonight Lisa Collins Shortall, ITMA and Dr. Barry Houlihan and to Niamh Ní Charra at ARA Ireland for hosting this month's #ArchiveHour !
Archive Hour Q7 Legacy recordings might be an issue when they are digitised years later and suddenly made available to everyone online - especially if consent was not given originally? #ArchiveHour
And a bonus question to finish!
Bonus Q: What ICH from your region would you like to see inscribed on the Representative list of the ICH for Humanity? What can archivists do to support this process?
(Reply to this tweet, start your tweet with BONUS & use #ArchiveHour )
Archive Hour Q7: Again there are many answers to this question but I will focus on one which has been a key priority for ITMA in the last year ...Rights! ITMA has a Commitment to free and open access to collections while respecting privacy and legal obligations #ArchiveHour
Dr. Barry Houlihan Archive Hour Dr. Barry Houlihan This is so true and brings to mind work that Michelle Caswell has done with community archives in the U.S. and of implementing methods such as Feminist Standpoint Appraisal in our everyday practice #ArchiveHour
Lisa Collins Shortall Archive Hour Dr. Barry Houlihan Pavee Point The Heritage Council The Heritage Council grants has been a vital support to ITMA over the years!
Lisa Collins Shortall Archive Hour Q5 #ArchiveHour Food culture is hugely interesting! & for all reasons you outline. The politics and class of food, from production to consumption, links in with countless aspects of ICH - A really interesting one to consider how its captured.
