In the end, we owe our parents something. Even if just an ear, for their indignation. Or coin, for a kilo of meat. I cannot tell you - with sufficient certainty - why we owe them these, or even what. But you will know the day you call home & hear your father's withered voice.

My grandma once told me having a dream will give me sleepless nights. The way I envisioned it, I would be working like a dog on most nights to realize my dream. I never expected to be kept awake by mere thoughts staring at empty walls and ceilings pondering. Guess I'm surprised.

On grief: We will sing. We will dance until daylight. Then into the night. And we will wail. Yes, we will! We will roll on the ground. We will carry leaves, then carry our bossoms in agony. We will curse at heaven, then ask for its forgiveness. We will be everything human.

What does this mean? To mourn with dignity? Whose dignity? Yours or ours? Have you seen the Legio Maria dance? Have you seen the names we use to describe our lovers?: "Chunya" is MY HEART. My wife is "Min Oda", which translates to the MOTHER OF MY HOUSE. "Jaber" is THE
