Hiding behind the LSS is disingenuous. The ‘RT’ settlement terms prove that HMRC has the flexibility to do what many have called for for contractors. The more honest answer to Sarah (& others) would have been simply that HMRC just don’t want to. Make sure your MP knows that.

A recurring criticism is that HMRC has not sufficiently pursued the promoters and enablers of the avoidance schemes, instead focusing heavily on the individuals who used them. This is seen as unfair, as many individuals were advised or even pressured into these arrangements.

🚨BREAKING NEWS: Huge new FOI revelation in the #LoanChargeScandal raised by Greg Smith MP in #TreasuryQuestions exposing #HMRC’s 15% settlement deal with large companies in 2015, as reported by Ray McCann to Lord Morse in 2019. All the while ruthlessly persecuting contractors.

The FOI exposes #HMRC unfair & reckless discrimination against contractors “Settlement opportunities have always had a discount, contractor one is the only one that didn’t”. If HMRC had offered a 15% settlement to contractors, there would’ve been no suicides. #LoanChargeScandal

If Ray McCann's #LoanChargeScandal "review" recommends victims paying anymore than 15% of the made up figure from HMRC, then that is pure theft and highlights the 2 tier system in this country. One rule for the wealthy and big businesses and another rule for everyone else.

Latest on #loancharge: A Freedom of Information request has revealed that HMRC settled with large corporations for just 15 per cent of what was owed for a number of tax schemes, MPs have been told by Greg Smith, co-chair of Loan Charge & Taxpayer Fairness APPG Greg Smith MP yorkshirepost.co.uk/business/loan-…

Now it’s known that #HMRC settled for just 15% (85% discount) with large companies, victims of mis-selling MUST be offered at least as good terms. The current review into settlements must now conclude this to have any credibility. We’ve written to Ray McCann urging him to do so.

Shocking double standards from HMRC and government as large companies settle for 15% whilst #LoanChargeScandal victims driven to despair & #LoanChargeSuicides. Time for #FairResolution, time for 15% settlement for all #LoanChargeScandal mis-selling victims.

Marion Treasury Committee Meg Hillier Keir Starmer Angela Rayner Rachel Reeves Darren Jones MP James Murray Spencer Livermore Camilla Tominey Eamonn Holmes OBE So the HMRC stance - that they could not offer discounted settlement as it wasn’t fair on other taxpayers - is shown as bogus. There is no ‘treating taxpayers fairly and equally’. Only pursuing the individual. What a vindictive policy. #LoanChargeScandal

I agree 100%. HMT sees potential #LoanCharge as revenue and they have always had a number attached to that, on whatever basis, but that number is not going to be written off or marked down without an almighty fight and more underhand tactics. HMRC play to win at all costs

Please write to your MPs requesting that they support this EDM. The irony of HM Revenue & Customs giving differentiated, sweetheart deals to businesses, whom they simultaneously failed to pursue in time for #loancharge scheme tax,is an affront to families of #LoanChargeSuicide victims

#TaxPayersBillOfRights The UK tax system grants HMRC sweeping powers that often leave taxpayers vulnerable to unfair treatment, excessive penalties, and financial ruin. From retrospective taxation to asset seizures without due process, HMRC frequently operates with minimal

Would it be better if I stayed silent? And allowed a scandal that has been linked with 10 terrible suicides to simply be ignored? The suicide risk to people affected by #loancharge remains a hellish reality. #loanchargescandal Loan Charge & Taxpayer Fairness APPG

I see these posts most days and I always check the amounts involved. It’s regularly 6 figures and makes a mockery of the amounts quoted by the Treasury, “the median settlement for individuals under the Loan Charge is £19,000 (including taxes, interest, and penalties)”
