Marco Narajos Yes. In fact I would argue that practices that are prescriptive about how teachers should teach cannot be evidenced based because in education the evidence is never clear and unambiguous enough to support prescription about how to teach.

THIS 🙌 We must focus on ways to build the capacity of teachers to be able to draw upon a ‘pedagogical toolbox’, ensuring they’re able to respond to their learners with the right content, in the right way, at the right time. engagingmaths.com/2024/09/13/opt… Prof Catherine Attard #iteachmath #Maths

Amie Albrecht's rally cry "In the face of complexity and diversity in classrooms, what will you be? A puritan, holding tightly to rigid frameworks that may not serve every student? Or a pragmatist, willing to adapt, to listen, and to meet the needs of real classrooms?" So good!

Say it louder for the people in the back 📣 Michaela Epstein ... "Mathematical clarity doesn't happen because someone else gives you a set of steps to blindly follow."

How would you use this as the prompt for a Number Talk? This is the 'Cardboard Cathedral' in Christchurch, New Zealand. Innovative architecture ... so much maths! #numbertalk #iteachmath #iteachmaths #maths #mathsteacher #MTBOS #mathsonholidays

Excellent blog post Amie Albrecht - moved to 🦋 BRAVO 👏 "As educators, we have a responsibility to provide students with well-rounded problem-solving experiences. Choosing only the elements of problem solving that align with our beliefs limits students’ learning." #iteachmaths #MTBOS

David Butler Thank you! I am more and more bemused by how incongruous it is to suggest learning in mathematics can only happen in one way and in one order.

"We believe that when teachers are empowered with professional agency and genuine autonomy, they are more likely to lead innovative practice." Keep it up Cameron 👏 is.vic.edu.au/learning-newsh…

We need a 'small s' science of Learning (soL) and a 'big S' Science of Learning (SoL) with the former denoting a narrow, one-sided set of research on learning (e.g. retrieval, cognitive load), and the latter based on the breadth of research on learning.

Morning musings...ref. Pepin (2018) explains Rabardel & colleagues research into curriculum resources as artefacts and instruments. The development of an instrument requires a process of 'intended use'...teacher's understandings & preferences shape the way they use the artefact.

Naomi Fisher Let’s imagine instead that one could understand that there is important information to learn from different research traditions and specialties that bear upon what is happening in our classrooms.

For effective transfer, learners need to be actively involved in the learning process (cognitively not physically!), engaging in deeper cognitive processes like analyzing, synthesizing, and applying concepts in various ways. When learning is too easy or when cognitive load is too

Loving this ICME13 monographs publication ... so many highlights and insights into how teachers use resources for teaching mathematics! The work of Remillard, Pepin, Adler and many others is exciting for informing my PhD. #phd #maths #mathematicsresearch #workingmathematically

"When presented with sweeping educational claims or a method that promises to be best practice, we must ask: Under what conditions does this work? What assumptions are being made? What is the specific purpose, and who does it truly serve?" 🙌Amie Albrecht - moved to 🦋 amiealbrecht.com/2024/10/30/esc…

As certain “evidence” becomes privileged as “truer” or more “right” than others, we will continue to see many important voices and perspectives silenced. BRAVO Tom Mahoney 👏
